LAS HERMANAS DE ROCINANTE

“My House, My Boat, My Horse”. Parallel to the real estate bubble in Spain, the business with the Pferde breeding grew. When it burst, hundreds of thousands of horses were abandoned or imprisoned and left starving because their owners simply could no longer afford their food. Despite a slow recovery of Spain’s economy, the suffering of the once proud tigers continues unabated, especially in the countryside.

On Costa Blanca, LOIS runs a rescue farm, an Arche Noah in the middle of a barren landscape. For ten years now, the 45-year-old has been rescuing horses; works with a cow’s head, day in and day out, for a thing that seems hopeless. Once the animals are stranded at the rescue farm, the work really begins. The daughter Lucia, her best wife Paula, and volunteers try to restore the animals‘ trust in people. Of all things, it is an old and sick stallion consisting only of skin and bones that conquer the young heart of the beautiful Paula. With him and her best friend Lucia, she spends the bravest summer of her life. But as the bond between Roneo and Paula solidifies with each hour spent together, his state of health becomes more and more critical. When Paula learns from Lois that Roneo is to be euthanized, the world collapses for her.

LAS HERMANAS DE ROCINANTE delves into the world of girls, where horses are the best protectors of their secrets. Led by a horsewoman who, on the edge of a collapsed economic system, is not deterred by the fact that she can only be a drop in the ocean.
