ABOUT US

More by chance than intentional, Evolution Film offers a home to the courageous women in the film. The multiculturalism connects the women, because none of them is at home in just one place. All the women currently working at Evolution Film have emigrated or live in at least two countries.

This interculturality is also reflected in the projects – the basis of our work is unconditional cooperation at eye level, no matter who you are or where you come from. The second specialty of Evolution Film is thinking out of the box – because we have all experienced what it means to rethink things as they might be handled differently in another country than you’re used to. The lesson: It’s not easy to break new ground at first, but it’s always rewarding in the end.

MEET

THE

TEAM

Sandrina – the square HEAD

Colleagues have found the image of the steam engine for Sandrina, which constantly drives the project forwards. She believes that films can make a difference as windows into unknown worlds.

That’s why she started as Head of Impact and Distribution at Evolution Film in 2022. She has been CEO since 2024 and has since taken over the company. She also founded the Moving Frame association with colleagues in 2025 – to bring films to their target audience and raise awareness and create impact. This also enables her to promote cooperation between film and science.

Before her time at Evolution Film, Sandrina worked as a freelancer, mainly as a 1st AD, on films and new media projects. Productions such as ‘The Magnetics’ and ‘Emperor’ screened at major A-list festivals such as Cannes and Venice. Whether as a field producer for ‘Atmosphere’, presented by Wim Wenders, ankle-deep in mud or as a producer at the desk for international co-productions ‘Eddie and I’ – Sandrina is committed to bringing projects to life in close collaboration with the director.

But Sandrina’s heart and soul beats for African stories. She has been commuting between Germany and Ghana for 15 years, having taught as a laboratory technologist at the University of Bamako, Mali, in 2017. Together with her West African colleagues, she wants to further develop the visual language and bring the unique stories to life.

Seble – the VISUAL magician

Seble is the epitome of calm waters run deep. Even though she rarely says anything in meetings, she is an incredibly courageous woman who first migrated from her home country of Ethiopia to Dubai. She later spent two weeks alone in Iran on business at the height of the Middle East conflict in 2024.

Seble became part of Evolution Film during the production of ‘among us women’. She is primarily responsible for visuals and design, but also for research – the Evolution Film logo is her brainchild. An architect by training, she is increasingly working with layout and character design in the course of new media in order to create new worlds.

Her curiosity and passion for exploring different cultures and perspectives have been instrumental in shaping her work. Seble’s travels and experiences in diverse environments continue to influence her designs, offering her fresh insights and inspiration. She believes that storytelling is most powerful when it resonates with universal truths, and her background allows her to bring these perspectives to life through visual artistry.

Sonja Kilbertus

Founder/Producer

Sonja has achieved what many in the film business talk about: as a young producer, she has created films that give visibility to those who are overlooked. With a strong will, she has financed films by women about women for women and released them worldwide.

Sonja founded Evolution Film UG in 2011 and promoted her vision of a special film. With concepts of storytelling cafés and festival workshops, her innovative ideas have led the way for the film ‘among us women’, which has screened internationally at over 40 festivals and has been sold to streamers and TV stations in Europe and Africa

She now shares this innovation with students at the HSLU in Bern, and as a senior consultant with the new producers at Evolution Film. The promotion of young talent is a major theme in Sonja’s professional career, who has repeatedly worked with debutantes and produced graduation films.

She has already turned her back on Germany and handed over Evolution Film to Sandrina at the end of 2024 but remains connected with her company. Sonja continues to produce social and special films with the NGO Einhorn Film. However, she has now set up her own personal ‘Las Hermanas de Rocinante’ on the Greek island of Lesvos, where she now looks after her own horses.
